Privacy policy
In plain English: what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
Last updated 3 November 2026. This policy covers this website and the MOUK waiting list. We'll publish a full policy for the app before it launches.
The short version
- Browsing this website: we don't use cookies, analytics or trackers.
- If you join the waiting list, we keep your email address, whether you're signing up as yourself, an organisation or a business, and anything optional you add (your town or city, and an organisation or business name).
- We use it only to tell you about MOUK's launch. We never sell it or use it for advertising.
- You can ask us to delete it at any time by emailing hello@muslimsofuk.co.uk.
Who we are
Muslims of UK (MOUK) is the data controller for the information described here, which means we're responsible for looking after it.
Contact us about privacy at hello@muslimsofuk.co.uk.
Why we take extra care
Signing up to a Muslim community app could suggest your religion. Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR), religious belief is "special category" data that needs extra protection. So we treat everything on the waiting list as sensitive, collect as little as possible and only use it with your explicit consent.
What we collect and why
| What | Why | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Email address, and whether you're signing up as yourself, an organisation or a business | To email you about MOUK's launch | Your consent, and your explicit consent for anything that suggests your religion (UK GDPR Articles 6(1)(a) and 9(2)(a)) |
| Town or city (optional) | To help us decide where to launch first and tell you when MOUK reaches your area | Your consent |
| Organisation or business name (optional) | To contact you about setting up your page before launch | Your consent |
| The date and time you signed up, and the version of the consent wording you agreed to | To keep a record of your consent | Our legal obligation to show consent (Article 6(1)(c)) |
We don't ask for your name, phone number or exact location.
When you browse the website
We don't use cookies, analytics or any third-party trackers, and the fonts are hosted on our own site. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes your IP address and basic technical details to deliver the site and protect it from attacks. When you use the sign-up form, your IP address is used briefly to stop spam and is not stored with your details.
Who else handles your data
We use Cloudflare to host this website and to store waiting-list sign-ups. Sign-ups are stored in Cloudflare's European Union storage, which is covered by UK adequacy regulations. Cloudflare acts only on our instructions.
When we email everyone about the launch, we may use an email service. We'll update this policy to name it before we use it.
We never sell your data or share it with advertisers.
How long we keep it
We keep your waiting-list details until you ask us to delete them or until 12 months after MOUK launches in your area, whichever comes first. After that, we delete them.
Your rights
You can:
- withdraw your consent at any time
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you
- ask us to correct it or delete it
- object to how we use it
Email hello@muslimsofuk.co.uk from the address you signed up with and we'll respond within one month. Withdrawing consent doesn't affect anything we did before you withdrew it.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use your waiting-list details, we'll ask for your consent again first.
